Horse Stance

        OR

Riding Stance

The horse or riding stance is the most basic training position in Taekwondo. It is an excellent position to practice block and punches, because it help a student gain the ability to generate power without relying on throwing their body weight around. It is also an excellent way to build the leg strength required for solid front and back stances.

STEP 1

This stance will normally be assumed after joon bi, but not always. The proper position for a horse stance begins with the feet spread apart about two shoulder widths.

STEP 2

The feet are pointing straight ahead, parallel to each other, and knees bent.

STEP 3

Be careful not to lean forward or back; instead, lower the body weight straight down as if you are about to sit on a stool.
